This play the Cavaliers are obsessed with works far more often than it should

The Cavaliers are one of the few teams in the NBA that can pick teams apart without running anything fancy on offense. Simple actions like a 3–1 pick-and-roll between LeBron James and Kyrie Irving can send defenses into a tailspin. Similarly, clearing the floor for Irving to attack 1-on-1 while Kevin Love, J.R. Smith and Channing Frye support him by spotting-up on the 3-point line puts defenses in an incredibly delicate situation.

Anthony has two years left on his contract, with an early termination option for a third. He is due to make $78 million in those years, and even with the leaps in payouts we’ve seen under the new television deal, he is not going to be worth it. Anthony turns 33 in May, and is in the midst of a third straight season of decline. His numbers are not terrible (21.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists) but his shooting is on the wane (42.1 percent from the field) and he is not the elite scorer he was. He’s not going to reverse that trend.

There is still the delusion that the Knicks could land players on the free agent market next summer, that maybe they will finally be able to lure Chris Paul to the East Coast to team with his good friend Anthony. But that’s a long shot, and even with those two, the Knicks would not be sure contenders. Given their recent history July after July, Knicks fans would be wise to temper any enthusiasm about signing a star.

And it’s unfortunate for Anthony. There are plenty of complaints about Nike NFL Jerseys Cheap his style of play, about his level of defense and willingness to pass. That’s all legitimate. But Anthony went to NBA Jerseys Cheap New York hoping to pave the way for other stars to join him. They never did, and they likely won’t start now. That’s the fault of the front office.
